The Albuquerque Press Club is a professional, educational and social not-for-profit organization established in 1965.
Membership is open to all individuals 21 years of age and older. Applications are reviewed and approved monthly by the Board of Directors, who shall have the final word on membership classification. Memberships are for 12 months, starting the first of the month in which the application was approved by the Board of Directors.
Membership Categories - All memberships are subject to review by the APC Board of Directors
Section 1. Eligibility and Classification. Membership in the Club is open to men and women of legal age who qualify, in the Board's judgment, under one of the following classifications:
A: Professional working media membership is open to persons who reside in or have their principal places of employment in New Mexico and whose principal activity meets one of the following criteria:
- Duly qualified correspondents of daily newspapers or other publications, including bona fide newsletters, issued regularly for more than one year and supported by advertising or paid subscriptions, which are not house organs of any organization or movement
- Reporters, editors, writers, publishers, editorial and news cartoonists and artists, news photographers, business managers and the circulation manager regularly employed by such publications, the chief librarian and the promotion manager regularly employed by such publications.
- Reporters, editors, and writers of news and producers of public affairs and news, and still and newsreel photographers regularly employed by news agencies and serving for pay for such publications, broadcasting stations and networks and other news disseminating media.
- Reporters, editors, and writers of news and producers of public affairs and news programs regularly employed by broadcasting stations and networks; newsreel operators regularly employed by such stations and networks, and the presidents and the general manager of broadcasting stations and networks.
- Bona fide journalists whose publications are part of the growing world of electronic media.
- The electronic publication is a for-profit venture giving its chief attention to the gathering and disseminating of news or analysis, provided it is not an organ for a special interest group.
- The publication is of interest to, and available to a wide segment of the general public.
- The publication provides frequent news and includes original content. For on-line publications that meet the above qualifications, the type of journalists who will be eligible are those who fill jobs that mirror the following print classifications: editors, publishers graphic artists, business managers, advertising managers, the circulation manager, the promotions manager, the chief librarian and the systems operator.
- Non-Fiction authors whose work has been published by a commercial publishing house and whose principal activity is writing books.
B: Associate media membership is open to persons in New Mexico whose principal activity meets one of the following criteria:
- Regular contact with members of the press or whose duties involve preparation or dissemination of news and information, and who reside in or have their principal place of employment within New Mexico.
- Public relations, advertising, or public information or editorial duties for a foreign or domestic government agency.
- Publishes, edits, writes or illustrates regularly-issued company or association newsletter
- Full-time or principal profession or business is book or play author, book or film editor, poet, television or film script writer, or book publisher.
- Employed as journalism educator at the college level, such as instructor, professor, or dean.
- Student at the college level majoring in journalism or broadcast sequences.
C. Social membership is open to persons who live or work in New Mexico, and have common interests with the Club's members and purposes.
D. Honorary membership: may be awarded to any person the Board may wish to honor with membership, subject to annual review by each incoming Board. Honorary members shall enjoy all rights of membership except for the right to vote and hold elective office
E. Retired membership is open to any Professional, Associate, or Social member who has retired from his or her employment or occupation. One year of Club membership in the Professional, Associate, or Social category is required before a Member may apply for status as a Retired Member.
F. Out-of-town professional membership: is open to persons who fulfill the membership requirements of Subsection A of this Article and whose place of business is not within the standard statistical metropolitan area of Albuquerque.
G. Life membership is open to members who fulfill the membership requirements of Subsection A, B, C, or F of this Article. A Life member shall enjoy all the rights of membership.
H. Spousal membership is open to the spouse, as defined by New Mexico State Law, of a member in good standing. A spousal membership shall be attached to the sponsoring members’ membership and shall expire concurrently with said membership. A spousal member shall enjoy all the rights of membership except for the right to vote and hold elective office.
I. Corporate Membership is open to any business, with operating interests in New Mexico, that operates in the communications industry, or that supports the interests of the APC. A corporate membership shall have one vote, regardless of the number of individuals enrolled under the membership. Persons individually eligible for membership who are designated by an officer of the employer company to hold membership paid for by the company are subject to Board approval as with any new applicants. Corporate memberships may include any number of individuals, providing they are bona-fide employees of said company.*

Clubhouse Rental is available for functions such as wedding receptions, private parties, professional meetings and news conferences. Rental rates are quite reasonable and may include use of the complete facility. Talk to the manager for details and scheduling, and read the Rental F.A.Q. here.
